Including the Oakland and Magnolia Plantations, two of the best-preserved plantations in the country, Crane River Creole National Park was used by the same families of workers, slaves, tenants, and owners for over 200 years, focusing on cotton cultivation. During the Red River Campaign of 1864, retreating Union troops burned down the main house of Magnolia, while Oakland made it out unscathed.
