Its memorial honors the patriots who fell in the battle of June 23, 1780, and the burial ground contains at least five Revolutionary soldiers’ graves and a vault with unknown soldiers' remains from the Battle of Springfield. The enclosed space offers a quieter counterpoint to the bridge crossings and military movements. Visitors can pause here after following the fighting through the town and consider what victory cost individual families.
