Cheat Mountain Battlefield

Cheat Summit Fort

Part of the Cheat Wildlife Management Area, the Battle of Cheat Mountain took place at Cheat Summit Fort, also known as Fort Milroy, in September 1861. While this pit-and-parapet fort no longer exists, visitors can still travel to where the fort used to be via US-250 park at the Strip Mine Trail Trailhead. There are informational signs describing the region's natural features and the 1861 battle by the trailhead.
