Charlie Crawford

President of the Georgia Battlefields Association, Civil War Historian, Battlefield Preservation Advocate, U.S. Air Force Colonel

Charlie Crawford has been a longtime advocate for battlefield preservation in Georgia, serving as president of the Georgia Battlefields Association, a nonprofit preservation organization, and editor of its monthly newsletter, Georgia Battlefields. He has delivered more than 80 presentations and conducted more than 30 tours focusing on Civil War sites throughout the state.

Crawford grew up near Philadelphia and earned a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He entered the U.S. Air Force, served in Vietnam and retired with the rank of colonel in 1995. He returned to Atlanta in 1996 and subsequently served as director of operations for an information technology consulting company.

Crawford also earned a master's degree in systems management from the University of Southern California. In addition to his involvement with the Georgia Battlefields Association and the Civil War Round Table of Atlanta, he is a life member of the American Battlefield Trust and the Military Officers Association of America.

Through his leadership, historical presentations and battlefield tours, Crawford has helped raise awareness of Georgia's Civil War history and the importance of preserving its historic landscapes.
