Drawing on the Trust’s extensive collection of maps, renowned across the history sphere for their accuracy, accessibility and consistency, Battle Maps allows users to examine pivotal moments from the Revolutionary War, War of 1812 and Civil War in remarkable detail through troop movements and terrain depictions. Created by veteran cartographer Steve Stanley specifically to illustrate and enhance the Trust’s land preservation work, the maps have been part of the Trust’s visual identity for decades.

Developed in partnership with Neotreks Corp., the new app uses places users on Trust’s maps depicting America’s formative military engagements via GPS. Beyond maps, the app links to other resources produced by the Trust, providing additional historical context, battle summaries, downloadable maps and other tools.

“From the opening shots of the American Revolution at Lexington and Concord to Lee’s surrender at Appomattox Court House, people will get to explore the major events and conflicts that shaped the first century of the United States in a new way,” said Trust President David Duncan. “Better yet, they can do that from the comfort of their couch or while standing on the ground where history was made.”

“NeoTreks is proud to have had a hand in creating this mobile app to help people appreciate some of the most important and consequential moments in our nation’s history,” said Michael E. Bullock, president & CEO of NeoTreks, Corp. “We hope it entices more people to visit and learn more about these sacred sites.”

Battle Maps adds to the Trust’s growing arsenal of mobile applications that utilize the latest technology to enrich history education. From in-depth tours to innovative augmented reality, the Trust’s app collection is revolutionizing the way people learn and experience history.
