This Civil War-era political cartoon from Vanity Fair features "John Bull," a caricature representing England. A poster on the wall behind him declares English sympathy for Jefferson Davis and the Confederate cause. The slave questions why England supports the slave-holding Confederacy, even though many English were against slavery.
