This AR experience recreates Pickett’s Charge on July 3, 1863, from behind the Union lines on Cemetery Ridge. In the distance, Brig. Gen. Lewis Armistead leads his Virginians across the open fields toward the Federal position, part of the massive Confederate assault commanded by Lt. Gen. James Longstreet. Union commander Gen. George Meade had anticipated an attack against his center and was prepared to reinforce the Federal line. Armistead’s men ultimately reached the low stone wall at the Angle, where a small number broke through before Federal reinforcements overwhelmed them; Armistead was mortally wounded as the Confederate assault collapsed.
