Meet Jeff and Nancy M. of Locust Grove, VA

An interview with Color Bearer members

I come from a military family and Nancy and I are both retired Naval Officers, so giving to an organization that was focused on saving battlefields, and military history for future generations was an easy decision for us.

American Battlefield Trust: What moved you to first give to our organization?

Jeff: I come from a military family and Nancy and I are both retired Naval Officers, so giving to an organization that was focused on saving battlefields, and military history for future generations was an easy decision for us.

What do you enjoy most about being a Color Bearer?

Being on the front lines of saving critical land and getting the opportunity to contribute.

What is your favorite battlefield you’ve visited?

There are so many and we have enjoyed visiting them all.  We are within a short drive to Payne's Farm, Wilderness, Spotsylvania and Fredericksburg.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Interesting question because our military careers have taken us to many places around the world, some good and some not so good.  We generally chose our destinations based on an objective.  Our next trip, not scheduled yet, will be to the Portuguese wine country and Italy.

What would you like to pass on to future generations?

The historical significance of the lives that have been freely given up to defend this country and ensure their freedom/constitutional rights.

If you could meet any historical figure, who would you choose and why?

For me that is easy, Admiral Chester Nimitz.  A true leader who loved his Navy and Marine Corps, but was willing to sacrifice the things he loved to save this Country.
