Saltville Battlefield

Saltville Battlefields Historic District is in Smyth and Washington Counties, Virginia. The district includes numerous buildings and sites and encompass the core areas of two battles, fought on October 2nd and December 20, 1864. Many of the defensive earthworks remain intact. A shelter on the corner of Main and King Streets contains historic waysides and markers, and another is on Buckeye Street near Elizabeth Cemetery. The Museum of the Middle Appalachians on Palmer Avenue also contains exhibits and artifacts interpreting the Saltville battles.
