Public Planning Sessions for Chimborazo Visitor Center
Richmond National Battlefield Park’s Chimborazo Visitor Center & Medical Museum invites you to one of two public planning sessions:
First at the Robinson Theater Annex at 2900 Q Street on Thursday, November 21 at 5:30-7:30pm, and a second date and location to be determined.
The National Park Service’s portion of Chimborazo Park is slated for capital improvements, exhibit upgrades, and new outdoor waysides beginning in 2026. This four-year process will be more equitable and inclusive through community engagement with neighbors and stakeholders such as yourself.
For decades, the park’s interpretation has focused primarily on Confederate medical history between 1861-1865, but based on new scholarship and public input, we hope to expand the narrative about Chimborazo Hill’s history and especially reincorporate more inclusive perspectives such as Native American and African American experiences on Chimborazo Hill. Most importantly, we hope these sessions are the beginning of a longer-term partnership with all members of the community to tell the stories of Chimborazo Hill’s past together.
