Civil War Defenses of Washington
Washington, DC 20012

The American Civil War began on April 12, 1861.  Many see the next big even of the war as the Battle of 1st Bull Run, which took place over three months later.  But what happened between that time, particularly in Washington, DC?  How was the city impacted by the war?  Ranger Bryan Cheeseboro will discuss the threats to DC, when and where the first forts to defend the city were built, the reality of DC secessionists; and if the city was in danger after the Union defeat at 1st Bull Run.
