Black History Month Exhibit - "Slave to Soldier"

In honor of Black History Month, Shiloh presents the temporary exhibit - "Slave to Soldier." This exhibit recognizes the often overlooked story of newly Freedmen who joined the Union Army from the state of Tennessee. 

Learn about the policies that created the United States Colored Troops in 1863, and a few of the battles and the men who earned their freedom during the war by shouldering a musket in Tennessee. A booklet is included with the exhibit that takes the visitor on a deeper dive into the history of these units and men from Tennessee and beyond.    

The exhibit is on display in the park's visitor center which is open from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm daily. There is no charge to experience the "Slave to Soldier" display.
