"Black Founders" The Forten Family of Philadelphia

This new special exhibit at the Museum of the American Revolution will introduce museum guests to the life of James Forten and his descendants over the course of a century. Using objects, documents and immersive environments, visitors will explore the different ways in which the Forten family was involved in the Revolutionary War, the economy of Philadelphia, the abolition movement and the women’s suffrage movement.
