Alexander's Artillery Battalion on Lookout Mountain - Living History Artillery Demonstrations

Colonel Edward Porter Alexander’s Confederate artillery moved to the summit of Lookout Mountain in the aftermath of the Battle of Chickamauga, as General Braxton Bragg’s victorious forces laid siege to Chattanooga. Their goal was to compel Union troops under General William Rosecrans to surrender or abandon the city. The key to this effort rested with the guns on Lookout Mountain, which commanded the Tennessee River below, the only practical route Rosecrans had for bringing in supplies.
