164th Battle Anniversary Commemorative Ceremony and Programs - This Hallowed Ground

Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield will commemorate the 164th Anniversary of the Battle of Wilson’s Creek between August 9th and 10th, 2025. Programs will explore the importance of battlefield preservation and highlight various aspects of the battle that made The Battle of Wilson's Creek significant to the outcome of the war in Missouri and to the nation, resulting in its inclusion as a National Park Service Unit. Programs will occur Saturday and Sunday between 10 am - 4 pm.
On Sunday, August 10, an outdoor ceremony will be held at 1:00 pm on the visitor center parking lot. The keynote speaker for the ceremony will be Michael Price, a Local History Associate at the Springfield-Greene County Library where he has worked since 2005. Price is a former Seasonal Park Ranger at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield, he has a Master's Degree in history from Missouri State University where he completed a thesis on the 1st Arkansas Cavalry (U.S.). Specializing in Civil War and military history, he presents programs on a variety of genealogy and local history topics. Most recently, Price developed the library’s digital project, The Fairgrounds and Beyond: Auto Racing in the Ozarks. He is currently researching the establishment of Wilson’s Creek as a national park.
The ceremony will conclude with the presentation of a memorial wreath and an infantry salute. After the ceremony, visitors are invited to enjoy refreshments provided by the Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Foundation.
