“Let the Sixth Corps Rest: The Other Federal Offensives on April 2nd” caravan Driving Tour. Bring your own vehicle and meet at the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier. Departing at 9AM Pamplin Park is proud to conduct a caravan driving tour of the key engagements on April 2nd, 1865 that did not involve the gallant VI Corps. Park historians will bring to life the critical battles that brought an end to the siege of Petersburg, illustrating how the events of April 2nd were part of a grand offensive in which every Federal Corps on the Petersburg front was involved.. The tour will begin promptly at 9:00 am and depart from the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier located at 6125 Boydton Plank Road, VA 23803. Carpools are highly encouraged. Guests will visit the site of Fort Mahone, Fort Gregg, Sutherland Station, and where the V Corps saw combat on Church Road. These events culminated in the Confederate evacuation of Petersburg and Lee’s surrender one week later. The tour will end at approximately 1:00 pm.
