Don E. Alberts

Author, Preservationist, Historian

Dr. Don E. Alberts is a professional historian working in Rio Rancho, N.M. He is the retired chief historian for Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque and now devotes himself to Civil War writing and historical preservation. Dr. Alberts was co-founder of the Glorieta Battlefield Preservation Society, Inc. and served as its president during the successful 12-year campaign to preserve that important battlefield as a unit of nearby Pecos National Historic Park. He has since been engaged in a campaign to similarly preserve and interpret the Apache Canyon and Johnson’s Ranch sites. Dr. Alberts is the author of General Wesley Merritt: Brandy Station to Manila Bay; Rebels on the Rio Grande: The Journal of A. B. Peticolas; and The Battle of Glorieta: Union Victory in the West. He is a proud member of the Civil War Preservation Trust.
