Urge Legislators to Support Extension of Federal Battlefield Preservation Grants
For 25 years, the American Battlefield Protection Program’s Battlefield Land Acquisition Grant Program (BLAG) has been the cornerstone of public-private efforts to save America’s battlefields—leveraging more than $250 million in federal funding, matched many times over, to preserve over 36,000 acres nationwide.
Today, that funding is more critical than ever as skyrocketing land prices—driven by data centers and large-scale development—put irreplaceable historic landscapes at risk. The American Battlefield Protection Program Amendments Act (S.3524) would reauthorize BLAG through 2035, strengthen related interpretation and restoration programs, lower match requirements to expand access for local battlefield partners, and explore protection for additional conflicts like the French and Indian War and the Mexican-American War.
Introduced by bipartisan champions Senators Dave McCormick (R-PA) and Tim Kaine (D-VA), this legislation needs visible, broad support to advance. Urge your members of Congress to cosponsor the bill—and learn more about why this campaign matters.
