Help Save 417 Acres at The Breakthrough

This Land Could Be Lost Forever

In the early hours of April 2, 1865, Union forces charged through smoke and cannon fire to shatter the Confederate defenses at Petersburg, Virginia. This pivotal moment — known as The Breakthrough — triggered the collapse of Richmond and led to General Robert E. Lee’s surrender just one week later, effectively ending the Civil War.

Today, the very land where that historic turning point occurred is once again under siege — this time by developers, not armies. Bulldozers threaten to erase what remains of a site that helped shape the future of the nation.

BONUS GIFT: Make a donation of $50 or more to receive a limited-edition Petersburg Campaign Challenge Coin in gratitude.
