Don't Let Vicksburg's Impact Erode

Tell Lawmakers to Help Stabilize and Reopen Park

Gradual erosion caused by the region's unique geology has been an ongoing issue for Vicksburg National Military Park. But in early 2020, the park saw cataclysmic damage, spurred by some of the heaviest rainfall the area had seen in decades. Storms washed away hillsides, buckled and shifted roads, rendering a third of the park inaccessible. Perhaps most tragically, the remains of several Union soldiers in Vicksburg National Cemetery were left exposed.

Nearly three years later, little has been done and the damage only grows with each new weather event. If urgent action is not taken to stabilize the landscape, rebuild the roads and reopen key parts of the park, this entire battlefield could be in jeopardy of being irreparably damaged.

Ask your legislators to take immediate and decisive steps to help the National Park Service return this battlefield to its full glory.
