It was here, on June 30, 1862, on the sixth day of the Seven Days' Battles, that the disorganized attack of the Army of Northern Virginia across White Oak Swamp was repulsed by the Army of the Potomac. Lee was once again unsuccessful in cutting off McClellan's escape from the peninsula.
