Sometimes, an experience is worth a thousand textbooks. That’s why we started our Field Trip Fund to help more young Americans visit the hallowed grounds where our nation’s history was shaped. These visits don’t just enhance students’ education – they can also spark an enduring love of history.
The Fund supports field trips to battlefields and other related historic sites for K-12 students who might not otherwise be able to make the trip. In just four years, we’ve helped 23,000 students visit some of the most famous places in American history, including Antietam, Fort McHenry, Gettysburg, Shiloh and Independence Hall.
As word of this project has spread, interest has grown. This should be a good thing, except that at present we don’t have the funding to keep up with demand and have to reject many of the field-trip applications we receive due to lack of funds.
The good news is you can help.
Based on the last school year, we estimate that just $9.30 can send a single student on a field trip. That means that a gift of $46.50 will send five students on a battlefield field trip, $93 will help pay for 10 students, and $186 for 20 students. Better still, a tremendously generous matching grant from the History Channel means that every dollar you give today will be doubled, up to $25,000.
Please contribute to the Field Trip Fund today to give students across the nation a chance to experience where history was made, firsthand. Together, we can help inspire the next generation of history lovers and preservationists!
