Thanks to our members and supporters, the American Battlefield Trust has reached an important milestone in the history of the battlefield preservation movement. With the recent acquisition of 13 acres at Cedar Creek in Virginia’s picturesque Shenandoah Valley, together, we have now preserved more than 50,000 acres of hallowed ground across the United States.

This land is part of more than 130 battlefields and associated sites spread across 24 states, from Glorieta Pass in New Mexico to Lexington in Massachusetts. The list includes some of the most famous battlegrounds from the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the Civil War — the three defining conflicts of America's turbulent first century.

To put the preserved 50,000 acres in perspective, the total acreage the Trust has permanently protected from development is significantly greater — by more than 6,000 acres — than the entire area of “the Federal City” that George Washington envisioned on the Potomac River, the District of Columbia.

Our members, partners, and supporters have led the charge for the past 30 years, helping to create the most effective battlefield preservation organization in the United States. This milestone is a tremendous accomplishment, and it is entirely due to you.
