Who can attend the American Battlefield Trust National Teacher Institute?
This event is primarily intended for K-12 educators and administrators, but we also allow the following professionals to attend:
Active K-12 educators and administrators.
Full-time Museum professionals.
A limited number of adjunct and full-time college professors & administrators.
Where will the 2020 Virtual Teacher Institute be held?
The event will be held on the American Battlefield Trust Zoom webinar platform.
When does registration open for the event?
May 28, 2020
Do I need to register for the event?
Yes, you must register for each session that you wish to attend.
What is the cost of registration?
There is no registration fee, the event is free.
How Do I Attend?
Register for the webinars that you wish to attend.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with all of the login information.
A few minutes before the webinar starts, click on the link provided in the registration email.
Are you recording the sessions?
Yes, the sessions will be recorded and uploaded to the American Battlefield Trust website by the end of the year.
Can I receive CEUs for watching the recordings at a later date?
No, you can only apply for and receive CEUs for attending the live sessions July 7-10, 2020.
Continuing Education Certificate:
How many continuing education contact hours can I earn at the event and how do I earn the hours?
You may earn up to 15 contact hours—which equals 1.5 CEU's. The number of CE hours that are provided to each participant will be commensurate with the number of webinars attended by each participant. Participants must register for each webinar session, sign in to each session using the group chat, watch the webinar for a minimum of one hour per session, and complete an exit survey for the event. All CE certificates will be processed AFTER the event.
What constitutes one CEU?
One CEU equals ten contact hours of participation in organized continuing education classes and/or training conducted by a qualified instructor. A contact hour is equivalent to one 60-minute interaction between an instructor and the participant.
Is there is a minimum number of sessions that I must attend to receive a CEU certificate?
Yes. Any participant requesting a CEU certificate must register for and attend four (4) or more sessions of the Virtual Teacher Institute to qualify for a CEU certificate.
Is there a minimum amount of time that I must be in each session to earn credit for attending?
Yes, you must attend for at least one hour per session (60 minutes) to earn a CEU.
Will my attendance be timed?
Yes, each session and each participant is timed by our system.
How do I receive my continuing education certificate?
You must register for each webinar that you plan to attend.
Attend at least four (4) or more event webinars.
You must sign in to the webinar using the group chat function in Zoom.
You must attend each session for at least 60 minutes per session.
Complete an exit survey that will be sent to you on July 15.
Answer YES when asked on the exit survey if you wish to receive a CEU certificate from Virginia Tech.
If you do all of the above, the American Battlefield Trust and Virginia Tech will take care of the rest.
Check the email address that you provided for your certificate starting in mid-September of 2020. Don't forget to check your spam folder, too.
Why do I have to fill out an exit survey?
This is a requirement from Virginia Tech. Without an exit survey, Virginia Tech will not fulfill your CE certificate.
How long do I have to wait to receive my 2020 CE certificate from Virginia Tech?
Virginia Tech will start mailing the CE certificates to the email address that you provided in mid-September of 2020. Please DO NOT contact Virginia Tech regarding your contact hours.
Do I have to pay for my own CE certificate?
No, the cost of the certificate will be covered by the American Battlefield Trust.
How do I know if my school district will accept the CE Certificate?
It is your responsibility to confirm with your school district if they will accept the certificate letter. The American Battlefield Trust and Virginia Tech only facility the issuance of the certificate. The application of the certificate is up to each individual, school, and school district.
Are these full college credit hours?
No. This is a CE certificate, not undergraduate or graduate hours, and they cannot be applied toward a college degree program.
How long do I have to request my 2020 continuing education certificates?
You have until August 7, 2020, to request your continuing education certificate. We will not process any new CE requests for the 2020 National Teacher Institute after August 7, 2020.
Why is there a deadline to request my continuing education certificate?
We contract through Virginia Tech University for the CE certificates. Our contract window can only stay open for a limited time.
