Meeting place
We will meet at 10am at the Smith-McDowell House and spend the day tending to the museum grounds. After lunch, volunteers may work until 2pm if desired.
Planned Activities
The museum is home to a landscape designed by the Olmsted brothers. Volunteers may help weed or rake garden beds, trim vegetation, spread mulch, or install fencing. Boxed lunches (Publix subs) and drinks will be provided. Restrooms are available in the museum.
History or Educational Activities
During lunch, our public programs director will discuss the history of the grounds, including their purchase by a Revolutionary War veteran, and the changes which have occurred since then.
Should I bring any tools or supplies?
We will provide rakes, shovels, loppers, etc. We have a few gloves but volunteers may wish to bring their own. Kneepads are also suggested if planning to weed or tend to ground vegetation.
