Meeting place
Volunteers should meet by the entrance of Poplar Grove National Cemetery at 8:45 am where there will be an area to sign in as volunteers. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Once volunteers are signed in, a Park Guide will provide instructions on how to properly clean the headstones. Following instructions, park staff will guide volunteers to the work area to begin the two-hour project.
Planned Activities
The day's activities will involve the cleaning of headstones at Poplar Grove National Cemetery. There are over 6,200 gravesites at the cemetery but not all headstones will be included in the cleanings. The cleaning will involve one person spraying a solution on the headstones, while another volunteer will use a scrub brush to clean off the dirt. Another person will follow behind with a water sprayer to rinse off the headstone. This project will take two hours to complete.

A brief talk about the history of the cemetery will be provided prior to the work project.
