Civil War | Park Day Volunteer Opportunity
Park Day @ Lone Mountain Cemetery
Saturday, April 9, 2022 @ 10:00 AM PDT
1044 Beverly Drive
Carson City, NV 89703
Volunteers will meet at the cemetery itself. We will be placing signs at the entrance of the cemetery, directing volunteers to the parking area. There is a substantial amount of parking on property for any size group that is easily accessible to all vehicles and easy to find using a map or GPS.
Lone cemetery is our largest cemetery here in Carson City, and also the only historical cemetery that is still being used today. Having grave sites that date back even later than the civil war- there is a high need for maintenance of graves, as well as trash clean up, weeding, and racking of leaves around all of the sites. Our plan is to separate our volunteers into groups- one focuses on trash, the other weeding, the next grave maintenance, and so forth; they will each have their own lead- whether it be a long-time volunteer, a park ranger, myself, or someone else from the department. Leads will provide directions and proper training on equipment if needed. All tools, materials and PPE will be provided by the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces department. We plan for this event to run from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, April 9. Volunteers are welcome to leave whenever they would like- but we do ask if they would like to participate, to attend first thing in the morning when groups will be made and directions given.
Is there a rain date?
In the instance of inclement weather, Park Day will be rescheduled for April 16th
Please wear the proper clothing for the weather, as well as sunscreen and bring extra water!
