This area was once the site of a Federal blockhouse overlooking the railroad access to the former Federal supply depot at Johnsonville during the Civil War. Park Day is part of an annual nationwide program where the public is encouraged to visit their favorite Civil War Park and help park staff in conducting projects that will help enhance the public's appreciation of the Civil War and the park's main features. Tennessee Promise scholars, scout groups, church youth groups, families and others of all ages who enjoy the outdoors and would like to help out are welcome. Free to participate. From 90 Nell Beard Road, follow the signs that say, “Volunteer Workday” to the project site. Hand tools and water will be provided. Outdoor work clothing, footwear and work gloves are recommended. In the event of severe weather the work day will be cancelled. For more information, contact Ranger Bob Holliday at 931.535.2789 or
