Peebles Farm Battlefield
Dinwiddie County, VA
Please join us to celebrate the life of the dean of Petersburg's Civil War history, Dr. Richard J. Sommers, as we scatter Dick's ashes on the Peebles Farm Battlefield. We will gather at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 29, the 155th Anniversary of the beginning of the conflict that Dick so eloquently described in his magisterial work, Richmond Redeemed. The American Battlefield Trust has given permission to assemble on battlefield land in front of Fort Welch on the Peebles Farm Battlefield. Parking is available at the American Battlefield Trust parking lot off Church Road near its intersection with Flank Road (near Fort Fisher). Following the event everyone is invited to gather at Giuseppe's Restaurant, 7022 Boydton Plank Road, North Dinwiddie, Va, to socialize, Dutch treat. Everyone in attendance will be invited to select a military tie from Dick's famous collection as a remembrance of the occasion.
So that we may have some idea of the number of people to expect, please RSVP with the names and number attending in your party to A. Wilson Greene at email@example.com.
