Members of the Petersburg Battlefields Foundation will conduct a caravan driving tour of Grant's first attempt to capture the Weldon and Southside railroads, the Second Offensive of the Petersburg Campaign, June 21-24, 1864. The tour focuses on the overshadowed Battle of Jerusalem Plank Road, which was a staggering repulse for the Union Army. Space is limited, and registration is first come, first served. The registration deadline is Thursday, November 5. Tour details are emailed after tickets are purchased.
After the tour will be an unveiling of an interpretive wayside sign exhibit of the battle, followed by the dedication of land donated to the Petersburg Battlefields Foundation for historic preservation. A Q&A session will be held following the ceremony, which begins at noon near the corner of Birdsong and Flank Roads. Snacks will be provided during the tour.
