Americans who experienced the Revolutionary War, the Civil War and other historical events were just normal people like those you know today. The people of the past had the same basic hopes and cares as we do today. Still, their lives were different in some ways and we can better understand and sympathize them if we stand where they stood, do what they did, and eat what they ate.
Join the National Park Service, the Rural Plains Foundation and the American Battlefield Trust at Harvest Day and help instill in your kids and grandkids a lifelong passion for history! Living history, historic weaponry, crafts, camps, games and even 19th-century chores will be offered throughout the day. The American Battlefield Trust will focus on camp and combat activities where participants can choose their side, grab their swords, outflank the enemy, and learn about what worked and what didn’t in battle and at rest. Kids will even get to don hats and uniforms!
