What are my travel options to the Lexington, KY area?
The closest airport to the Griffin Gate is Lexington Bluegrass Airport (LEX). It is approximately 18 minutes to the Griffin Gate Marriott. Once you arrive in Lexington, you have several options to get you to Marriott. They are:
Taxi Service is approximately $23 - $25 for a one way trip.
Estimated Uber Fare is $17 - $23 for a one way trip.
Gold Star Limousine Service 1-800-205-7330, estimated fare is $60 (including tax and gratuity)
Car Rental with complimentary parking at the Griffin Gate Marriott. (You do not need a car for conference activities.)
The overflow hotel, Clarion, has a free airport shuttle for hotel guests. Call them to make arrangements at 859-233-0512.
What meals are included with my full conference registration fee?
As part of your conference registration, you are provided with the following meals:
Thursday: Breakfast and lunch. For Color Bearers attending the Author Dinner, you will also receive dinner.
Friday: Breakfast and lunch. Hors d'oeuvres at Friday reception, with cash bar available.
Saturday: Breakfast, lunch and dinner. There will be a cash bar available at dinner.
What is a personal itinerary and why is it so important?
You will receive a personal itinerary on-site when you register. It will confirm what you signed up for and provide you with the exact time that your tour will line up for departure. All tours depart at different times, so please be sure to remember your departure time. We will not hold a bus for you if you are tardy, so please be sure to be on time.
Will there be American Battlefield Trust merchandise for sale at the Conference?
Yes! The Trust will have a very well stocked inventory of American Battlefield Trust items in the exhibit hall during the conference. You can also shop from our on-line store before the event at https://shop.battlefields.org/.
What is the attire during for the activities scheduled during the Annual Conference?
This is YOUR vacation, and we want you to be comfortable and casual. However, for particular events, we can suggest the following:
For all tours: We recommend casual clothing with closed toed walking shoes. We strongly suggest long pants for battlefield tours.
Thursday Evening Color Bearer Dinner: Cocktail/Business Attire
Friday Evening: Business Casual Attire
Saturday Evening Banquet and Awards Ceremony: Cocktail/Business Attire
Please remember to check the weather and be prepared. We also recommend you bring a hat, umbrella or rain jacket, sunscreen and bug spray.
Will you have an exhibit hall during the conference?
Yes, we will have an exhibit hall set up during the conference. You’ll be able to speak with local, preservation minded organizations, as well as many of the authors attending our conference. There will be books and other items for sale. The (tentative) exhibit hall hours are:
Wednesday: 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Thursday: 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Friday: 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
The exhibit hall will close after the buses leave for the daily tours on Friday.
I’m bringing my spouse and they aren’t interested in the Civil War. Are there any tours that might be of interest to them? If so, what is the cost?
Yes! We offer two non-Civil War Tours on our main tour days – Friday and Saturday. They are typically a combination of historic homes and gardens and other local tourist sites. The full conference registration fee is the same for all participants. If your spouse is only interested in attending meals with you, we also offer a meal only package.
